How to Prepare your Child for Kindergarten
When a child leaves preschool, it’s time to enter kindergarten to expand their learning ability. Kindergarten is a more formal classroom setting where the children learn to do more things on paper. They learn in a fun and interesting way. Games and play come natural for children. Many basic cognitive, language, analytical, and social basics are taught within basic constructs of game and play. The good kindergartens can be important first step in a child’s growth.
What can you expect in Class?
A kindergarten teacher must prepare her class by developing a lesson plan that includes the development of social skills, speaking skills, learning skills, and physical development. A child will be given choices from time to time in order to develop their ability to make decisions. Either choice they make will have a learning activity with it. Kids are taught not only to choose the activity and see it though but when they get done with the work they are to review it.
How do you know when your child is ready?
If a child is placed in kindergarten and they are not ready for it then they may become withdrawn, unable to concentrate, and will not do so well in school. You can check to see if your child is ready for kindergarten by doing the following:
• You should read a story without your child interrupting you.• Your child should be able to pay attention to something or someone for a longer period of time• Your child should be able to recognize shapes• Your child should be able to memorize and recite a rhyme• Your child should be able to tell the time of the day; morning, noon, or night• Your child should be able to recognize the different colors• Your child should be able to recognize different shapes• Your child should be potty trained or in the process of• Your child should be comfortable when separated from his or her parents
When your child has successfully completed all the above he or she may be ready to begin kindergarten. There are several programs available online to help your child develop to be ready for kindergarten. At this age, learning is usually in the form of games. You can create a lot of learning activities for your child at home. When you are ready to do a task, ask yourself if you can think of a math problem for the task. Are there different colors or shapes? Can you make up a rhyme? Can you allow your child to help with the task? A lot of things are learned when they get to help you. The entire time you and your child are laughing and having fun he or she can be learning as well.
When your child is ready for kindergarten you can find a kindergarten program to enlist them. You can choose from public schools or private. Do your research before you make your decision. In kindergarten learning is done at a much faster pace then what they were use to in preschool but at this age they should be able to handle the pace and challenge themselves.
